Welcome New Cakers from Virginia

Good Morning Everyone, First of all- I would like to say that I am sorry that I have not been on here much. Little background.... about a year & a half ago I fell on ice and broke not one but both ankles- it has been a horror story since then. Anyway, I am still dealing with the ankles and many complications from the accident. I just wanted you guys to know why I have been missing in action!

Ok, now for anyone that is new to this site and to our group- WELCOME with a capital W! We are glad you have found us here. This is a terrific site not only for the professional- experienced baker, but also for the newbies to this art. There is just so much talent on here, and so many helpful people! If you have a question or need some help- there is always an answer  for you. When you have some time (if you haven't already), take a little tour around this site. The forums, etc. are amazing!

Theresa Happe (who started this) is usually on and has monitors watching- so it is a safe site for you too. You will be very impressed I am sure.

As far as the Virginia group goes- I hope that all of you feel free to email each other, and bounce things off of each other etc. Share recipes- share events that may be going on, and also share any neat stores that you would recommend. This is a place to share whatever you think would be helpful to other people in this area.

I really would like to get some people together- looking at the different areas, I would suggest that you see who is near you and maybe contact them & get to know them (if you want to socialize and make new and exciting friends)! We are spread out all around VA.

I will try to check in more often- but please feel free to meet-greet-share and grown with your fellow Virginians.

Finally, the Holidays are upon us, and I am sure you are all getting crazy right now with your schedules. I hope that everyone has a safe-healthy- and happy Holiday season.

That is it for now- I will check in when I can. Happy Baking! Julie :)

Hi All! Do you guys know where can I join the Wilton fondant class in NOVA? Thanks!

Hi Trix- you can take Wilton classes at the Michaels in Sterling or Reston. And the A.C. Moore store in Ashburn also offers them. Just google the stores for exact details. Good Luck!  :)  Julie

BTW- sorry I have not been on here very much... I broke both of my ankles in January and have been very low key!

I have been in and out of hospitals and it has been very crazy!

Hi All

I just moved here to Va in late June. We live in Chesapeake. I did find a cake contest here in the Tidewater area, in early October. I think the site is wwwDOTcdotDOTcom. Cake Decorators of Tidewater. It'll be my first and I am very excited!!  If anyone is in my area, I'd love to hear from you.

Hi Julia- great name... I am a Julia too! Anyway, welcome to VA. You will like it here, and you are in a very nice area. And oh so many cakers there- you will have no problem meeting up with people. I am not in that area, I am in Fairfax County-but there are also a lot of great and helpful people on this site. Don't be afraid to ask questions or ask for help. This is a wonderful site and very educational!

HI Everyone,

Just checking in to say hi. I am still on the mend (from my 2 broken ankles) and not baking as much as I usually do, so I have not been on or added pictures etc. I hope everyone is doing well. This month is National Peach Month- so think about some great recipes using fresh Peaches!

Also  I wanted to tell you all that one of our "Virginia Group Members" has another book in the works- so be on the look out for it-Debra Mosely from The Cake & Cookie Closet-All Dolled Up In Sugar has a great new book coming out very soon-Mini wedding treats. Now if you don't know Deb- she is a VERY talented author, baker, speaker and teacher of anything sweet! I would reccomend her work to anyone!

So, what has everyone been up to? Please share your work and post all of your great pictures on here. This is a terrific site and a very helpful one too!

Well, take care for now and I will check in soon. Julie  :)

Hey all. I've started working on my gumpaste roses for the Cake Decorators of Tidewater cake contest happening in October. I also found the most AMAZING cake shop in Norfolk, the Wine and Cake Hobby Shop. I about cried the first time I went in. Ahhhh.... Cake nirvana!
Hope all is well in your cake worlds!

Hi All, I am checking in... I thought by now I would be back up and around 100% -but no. :(  Breaking (both) ankles is not an easy mend. But I am looking forward to the Holidays and I will do what I can. I was wondering what everyone was up to? Do you all have lots of things planned? Please talk to each other and learn from each other. There is just so much talent on here- it is unbelievable. I had wanted to try to get people together- but until I can get around better, I will have to put that off. Maybe after the Holidays we can try. I want to welcome the newcomers to this group, and hopefully you will teach us many new things. If you have just joined this site- check out the videos, and tutorials- they are GREAT! So educational, and fun. Well I will check in again soon.... Happy Baking Everyone! :)
