Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

I'm on my way to a cake supply store to get things to make gum paste, and I asked for tylose and they said they have cmc (sodium carboxy menthol cellulose) forgive my spelling........

they said it's the same as tylose, I also saw a recipe for tragacanth - does anyone have a preference on what works better?????

ty!!!

i never used the CMC ! first time hearing about it , i always use tylose ; /

Targacanth is stronger

I've used Targacanth and Tylose and prefer Tylose.  Never used CMC.

I am new to this.  What is tylose, and what does it do?

its used to make your fondant work like gumpaste !

Cmc does not work as well as tylose. I have used both and the Cmc never really set hard

So why not just use the gumpaste?  Is there a particular reason to use it in the fondant?

the reason, is when there is no gumpaste on hand . make your own !
