Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

Hello!  I have just recently started a custom cake/cupcake business with the urging of friends.  I love to bake and decorate, but am struggling with how to package large quantities of cupcakes and cookies.  I have an order for 200 cupcakes coming up.  I have 14x10" size boxes/inserts to hold a dozen, but is there a box/insert combo that holds more than that?

If anyone knows of different club I should be asking, please let me know!

Thanks!  Heather

That could be Eileen. There have been some changes in the last couple of months at our Sam's store in other areas of the store, so maybe they quit. I haven't bought any boxes for over a year, so don't have a clue if their policy has changed.

The last time I went into Sam's and asked if I could buy boxes from them I was told they no longer do that (about 2 months ago). :(  That might just be at my particular location in Wisconsin, however.

I have used a half-sheet box and 4 of the 6 cupcake inserts to make a 24 pack. If you worry about the bottom, you can put one of the plain 14 x 19 cake boards in the bottom and it supports the cupcakes very well.

Hey Linda - I just went to Sam's today and they said no problem to order the boxes.  They just need a week's notice so they can get them ordered.  Way cheaper than online and they're the boxes with the windows!  And no shipping!!  Thanks again for the suggestion.

Hey Eileen.  I stopped there today and ours will still let us buy them, with a week's notice.  Next time you're in Cedar Rapids, IA, stop by and stock up!  :)

Heather,  No I have never ordered from there.   I had them bookmarked to give them a try.   Good Luck...

Heather, I live in Council Bluffs, Iowa and I didn't know about Sam's bulk boxes until I was at the store where I purchase most of my decorating needs, and they just happened to be out of all their boxes! It was right at graduation time. The clerk that was waiting on me told me to check at Sam's. She had worked there for years in the bakery there and she told me that whatever you see on the shelves that Sam's uses for their own packaging, is also available for all Sam's customers. I ended up ordering a case of sheet cake boxes along with the card board inserts. It all ended up being way cheaper than what I would have paid at my cake decorating store, although I did have to buy bulk. But my big sheet cake box ended up only costing me about 80 some odd cents per box, and that was for the biggest sheet. I need to check out their 12" square boxes since that is the size I use most. I just haven't gotten around to it yet.

When I have gotten really busy and found myself in a pinch with no time, I have also purchased their 5 gallon bucket of white butter cream. It usually runs around $32.00 for a five gallon bucket.  I'm pretty sure they carry the whipped icing too. I haven't purchased any, but the clerk also told me that you can purchase cakes already baked and ready to ice, too. They use Duncan Hines cake mixes and they come in a bulk case, but I don't know how many come in a case. I like to bake my own so have never purchased any.

Hi Pamela - have you ordered from there before?

Linda - I will definitely check out Sam's club.  We're near Cedar Rapids, IA.  I had forgotten that I'd asked them about boxes a while back and they told me they sell them in bulk.  At the time, I only needed one, but that's changed now.  Thanks for the reminder!  Bonus - no shipping charges!
