Hi Magdalena - there's a tutorial on youtube for making clay irises.  I guess the principle would be the same with gumpaste.  There is a lot of using cutters and veiners thought, so don't know if it would be suitable for you.  Take a look and see -

I also have a book on making flowers, I'll check it out and see if Iris is included.

Ooh just had another thought!  Gail (artdeco), made a load of irises a while back (no cutters or anything used).  Message her and ask her how she did it!

Thank you Kate, I saw the tutorial on you tube but found it wanting, I'm not sure if it will work exactly right with sugar paste, fondant or  for my purpose. But I will ask Gail. If I know which cutters to use I might work it out somehow, but I don't see a lot of info about it. I want smallish Iris's.

Have you checked the one on lovely tutorials?  http://www.lovelytutorials.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2398

Ah Goreti - your wonderful Russian site again lol.  Actually looks like one of the tutorials there is the picture version of the youtube clay video.

Magdalena - looks from the lovely tutorials site that Goreti linked us to, that you can use the gladiolus cutter, or the orchid cutter.  At the end of the day, an Iris is very similar to the lilies, gladiolus, hibiscus etc.  I would think any thin oval cutter and then frill it like mad!

btw - just checked my book and sadly they don't feature an iris.

Goretti, it is 23h015 here in South Africa and I am blessing you! Thank God I met you all! I completely forgot about lovely tutorials, and they are so-o-o-o good! I just finished 100 of 250 Barberton daisies( Gerbera's) for cupcakes and I think I'm calling it a day. Off to bed I go! God bless you all!

I love lovely tutorials.  It is usually my go to place.  Have a good night

Ditto Magdalena.  Great people here.  100 out of 250?  Yikes, mind blowing.  I'm toying with the idea of entering a cake in the contest and I thought - blackberries.  Stupid girl - I've made about 6 and it's taking ages....................

There is a really good DVD by Nicholas Lodge called "Gumpaste Bearded Iris & Southern Magnolia".  It has great instructions for an iris.
