Hi Ladies,
I appreciate if you give me a perfect recipe for homemade gum paste, to use it for sculpturing different figures and animals and to dry and stand for long time. Thanks in advance for helping me.

If you wanna make figures and animals, the best thing to make them out of is gumpaste not fondant. With the gumpaste you will have extra time before it drys to sculpt your figures. You can make gumpaste 2 ways, one, get the ready made gumpaste, or the gumpaste powder mix (in which you add glucose(white corn syrup), and water, both of which can be purchase from michaels or a.c moore,or walmart. You can also make fondant and add tylose powder to it (which you can order from an online cake supply store such as sugarcraft.com. The tylose powder turns the fondant into gumpaste. You can find a good recipe for fondant on this website: WWW.SUGARTEACHERS.BLOGSPOT.COM, they have all sorts of recipes.

good luck
Monica, thank you so much for your great help.
Monica thank you for the info on tylos powder I usually have so nuch fondant on hand and no gumpaste. I think I will order some.
Monica, I think you have it backwards. Gumpaste dries much faster than fondant. Gumpaste will completely dry overnight but fondant takes days to dry and doesn't dry as rock hard as gumpaste.

I drying time depends on the gumpaste you use. Fondant is not the best for making figurines unless you add Tylose to it.
Then it works really well.
Edna :)
Try using 50/50 gumpaste/fondant

i had trouble with all gumpaste when i made my first shoe, dried too fast, and cracked like crazy.
i was using the wilton recipe ..... but just recently watched Edna's video on gumpaste, and im now switching to hers.

anyways, i read that you can do the 50/50 mixture for figurines to help with the cracking and drying out issue, and it ended up working perfect for me.
You just make both batches, and then kneed them together, let it rest overnight, and your good to go.
Thank you sooooooooo much for these ideas. I will try it soon.
