Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

On Friday  I ordered 14 kg Ready to roll fondant from a local supplier. That afternoon they delivered a bucket of Pettinence RTR icing.I opened it and it smelled sour. It looked and tasted like a sour coarse cottage cheese, almost buttery. The delivery guy insisted that this is what I ordered and would not take it back. I called the company and the lady also said that it was ready to roll fondant. I could not use this substance on any cake. I Googled to see what it was and all I could find out is that this is supposed to be a silky smooth fondant.

I use Bakels Pettinice all the time and it is a wonderful silky substance that I never have any problems with - even in our extreme heat in Zululand - sorry, I think they sold you something that was off (possibly it may not have passed its sell by date but was stored in an inappropriate place) - demand your money back!

we work hard for our income, its not fair when suppliers try to rip us off!

Never heard of this Magdalena, so I couldn't comment on the product.  However, I am with Mandy, make them give you your money back.  As it's a local supplier, take the stuff back to them and make them taste a dollop of it.  Then challenge them as to whether they would use it on a cake, preferably while there are lots of other people in the store, for maximum effect.  Good luck.

Yeah! Sisters are doing it for themselves :-)

No pettinice is not supposed to smell or taste like that. Worse case scenario go to consumer affairs or fair trading and get advice - or whatever the equivalent body is in your country.

Thank you for your advice. I was refunded in the end. But am now very wary before I order on mail.
