Hello North Carolina Bakers! I am looking into obtaining liability insurance for my home-based processor cake business. For those of you who have your business already established, 1) Did you…Continue
Welcome Shon! I am in Winston-Salem. Hope you do well with your business.
I don't believe this site is active! Look at the dates??
We are active! You just have to ask questions or post a discussion. If you are a member (like me) to the NC group, I get an email with an update to who has made a comment or added something to this group! So, yes this is an active group, sorry it hasn't been for quite some time.
I know, I get the updates as well. It is a shame we do not communicate more with each other! There are probably a lot of things we could resource together about such as cake supply locations, sugar workshops, cake clubs, venues, etc.
Although I live in Md. we own a house in Apex and plan to retire there next year.I owned a cake shop here for 20 yrs. and have been doing cakes for over 35 yrs.I still would like to do a few cakes mainly wedding when I live in N.C. Here we have bakery supplier food /paper that anyone can go to buy on certain days and time called "cash and carry" I would like to find places like that in N.C.I have been looking on the internet trying to find suppliers that carry the items I'm used to using.if anyone knows of this you could email me @ cakes2younc@aol.com
Thanks,
I also plan on holding small class classes in my home .Max/Mim.4 stud.
Nancy, don't know if it would be what you are looking for, but there is a company called "North Carolina Paper" in Clayton, NC. That is about 30 minutes from Apex. I have been there when I took someone to the airport in Raleigh (it is 1 1/2 hours from me). They have paper supplies as well as a fair amount of specialty cake supplies and they have a fairly large on site selection of gum paste flowers. Their website is: ncpapercomany.net HTH
Thank you I have seem that on the internet and plan to visit it when I finally move down.Do you belong to the N.C. cake club?I use to receive their e-mail newsletters but that stopped coming?? I have been meaning to look them up on my computer.it would be nice to know someone when we do move.My daughter and her family live in Cary. That's our reason for moving.Thank's again Janet
I looked at their site and what I'm looking is for more of a "wholesale place" where you buy 50 boxes at a time ect. that N.C. paper is more retail.
I'll more than likely buy here and bring with me.
Nancy,
I'm not sure if you'll find what you are looking for unless you have a business license/tax ID. There is a place in Charlotte - Restaurant Depo that carries food supplies, but not alot of cake supplies. There is only 1 I know of in Charlotte that sells supplies but it's more retail. I know there are your big name companies that you can order from, CK and Dawn are popular ones that my other cake friends order from. But you must have a business license/tax ID number to order from them and there a hefty minimal order with one of the companies. I like the Paper Company place, wish Clayton was a tad closer to me, but a nearly 3 hour drive doesn't sound like a day trip for a few supplies I can order online.
We don't have a cake club, at least not one I'm aware of. BUT we do have a NC ICES chapter. www.ncices.org it's in need of an update, but we also have a FB page to keep you informed for the DOS' that happen. 2 are in Charlotte and 2 are in the Raleigh area. Our next DOS is Sunday, November 3 in Pineville, NC. Details soon as I am on the planning for that. The next is in May and 2 are the Raleigh area - one in August and another in February/March?? Anyway, you can get in touch with our state rep to include you on the list for any information with NC and cake decorating.
