Hi,  Yup its been a while.  i too have a cake to do next week.  In fact I have seen so many cakes at Cake central that inspire me to bake, but family feel I take too much of time on one cake, so I have restricted myself to one cake a month...........need to keep my family first especially hubby dear LOL.  I try out borders and flowers occasionally.

Have fun with your cupcakes.

i used to do baskets on my cakes years ago with build up royal icing and trellis work

i've got one cake i did in 1986 a 4 tier, i had to make spares in case they broke, it really hard on your hands as the icing has to be stiff so i am quite glad fondant came in

I have a problem with drop flowers, they just don't drop properly.........any advise would be very helpful.  I was trying to go for easy with drop flowers but they just will not co-operate.

Just make sure you stop the pressure on the bag before you pull away. Here is a super detailed tutorial. I ty[ically end up with the petal a little higher than desired too. A cornstarched finger or damp paint brush will fix that right up.
