I used tips 31 and 32 on the purple and pink base I made for my friend's daughter's Barbie cake to go on. I liked this - it was more "flowery" than a standard star tip. On my Halloween Spider Cake I used a tip that had a cross-shaped opening to make a sort of ruffly gathered ribbon-looking black borders. I have these 2 already posted. I'll post some new as soon as I can.

I just used Wilton sparkle dust after making the shapes for the reflections out of a darker shade of gold gumpaste. I had a picture to refer to for where the shadows and highlights should go.

I had this idea, but if I do it I may have to get copyright permissions, I don't know. I have some vintage Wilton magazines with photos of flowers and piping that you don't see much these days. I think it'd be fun to post pix of some of those and then we could do our own interpretations and creative spin-offs. Does this sound interesting to anyone?

oh yes, that would be great. I don't know about copyright permission, will it not be on the internet if we googled?

I'm not sure. Sometimes I've seen stuff like that posted and maybe it's technically against copyright but no one objects since it doesn't hurt current sales? Or maybe if it's educational it falls under fair use? I guess I could start by contacting the forum admin to see what they think.

I have some old books, let me look them up and see how I can post them, it comes with instructions.

I just had a lightbulb moment reading your suggestions, Anne & Lacey - I'm going to scan some of the pix from mine and play with the colors with GIMP (freeware similar to Photoshop). If I can remember how to work it. (I need to spend more time learning GIMP.)
But what I was thinking - take one of the vintage Wilton cakes and imagine it in today's hot colors and with other tweaks. It could be quite a fun adventure. Then try actually baking & making it - or a scaled down version if it's a wedding cake to feed 200 people and you don't need that much cake, LOL

Yup, that sounds really good. I found my book, copyright should not be a problem because this is a book I paid good $$$ for LOL (i hope I am correct). is it ok if I scan it black & white as I have to photocopy it & then scan. Sorry Bunny I do not have any fancy software for colors. My scanner does color but then it will be a big file. I have to now investigate on how best to post the pictures and instructions.
BTW, which number is a forget me not tip?????????

I had to share, I just went to Cake central and looked up my friend serious cakes' picture of cakes, her piping is fantastic and she also has a tutorial on stained glass, check it out.
