Next Great Baker Show
So did everyone watch the Next Great Baker? Buddy's new competition show on TLC? The premier was this Monday.
What are your thoughts/comments on the show?
I think Cakes We Bake's own Jay Qualls did really well! He's one of the few that didn't come across looking clueless. :) Way to go, Jay!!
I have a few comments, but will save them until after I hear what others thought. :)

yes, I seen it mostly 3/4 of the way. I missed the beginning or came in on when they asked who left cakes in the oven over night & left the oven on.. How much did I miss? Was this the 1st showing or did I miss an episode last week.
I didn't get the vines on the cake theme though... Suzie -

Yes i watched it too. However, i missed the ending!! Who got sent home?? The upcoming episodes looks like some people gets a little nasty!!! I liked the show and hope they get down to some really great cake decorating!!!

I was pretty disappointed with it, and actually quite appauled(sp?) by some of the cakes. I just want to see them show off their talent, and very few were able to do so. Wondering if some of them HAVE any talent... Maybe it was their time restraints.... don't know...

oh wait, the girl w/ the football theme was sent home, I'm sorry... I think she missed her baby to much..
I couldn't get the cake w/ the vines theme for a celebration theme..
I was kinda surprised for what the bakes came up for a celebration theme, I guess I expected much more in this area from all of them. But like Eileen said Jay Qualls cake was really nice. Suzie -

Overall I liked the show, although I think Buddy is having difficulty as a "host" (he really likes to shout! LOL!). They had a total of 9 hours to make a celebration cake - 3 hours to bake the first day and 6 to decorate the next day. You'd THINK that would be enough time to make a decent cake! And mst of them did do a decent job of it, but that vines cake - oy! I think he just got lazy because he knew he had a "pass" from winning the taste challenge. I imagine there were a lot of nerves at play along with being in an unfamiliar kitchen with unfamiliar equipment. Still- really? She left her cakes in the oven? I understand she thought they had been turned off and was hoping the remainingresidual heat would continue to bake her cakes - but even if it had, can you imagine the nightmare trying to get them out of the pans in the morning? Yikes.

I agree Eileen with the Electrical Engineer leaving the cakes in the oven thinking that someone else would just turn them off!! Then the vine cake, i'm sure it was hot in that kitchen with all the lights, ovens going etc but still i thought he was just lazy and i felt out of his element and knew he had a pass not to get sent home. AND what was up with people having to share a mixer!! You'd thought they would have had enough mixers for each person!!!!

I thought Brian was really good. Just a regular guy. Some of the others were odd and seemed like they were trying way too hard. I was also disappointed with the quality of the work.

wow man in South Africa it is still showing the first episode of the cake boss, it has repeted about five times little boring by now, and here im reading all about what you guys see there.

Isabel - That's too bad you can't see the show. :( I thought maybe you could go to TLC.com and watch episodes, but you have to download them from iTunes to do that. Hopefully you'll get new episodes soon.
I love this site too!! Such nice people, helpful advice, and general overall support!

yes i cant wait for new episodes even the cooking channels are also repeted we are sooooooooo way behind.
when i herd your discussions about the new show you are watching i went onto the website and had a glimps of the show, looks interesting so now i can follow your discussions.
