Hi, I have just started cake decorating, mainly for family and friends...so much to learn, but thoroughly enjoying it. Love learning new tips from everyone...can't wait to get better at it :)

Hi Jane, you will love this site then. Since I have been on here I have met so many nice and talented people. There is always someone willing to share advice and so many little hint and tips. I started out just wanting to do cakes for family and friends and have ended up loving it so much that I have done a few courses and now thinking about taking it all a little bit further into a business. Glad to hear that you are enjoying it and hope to talk to you on here sometime.

Thanks Melissa, I am starting my first course this May, just thru a community college. Would love to do the Wilton courses but they seem to be only based in Qld and the Planet Cake courses are a bit pricey at the moment. You are right about learning hints and tips from everyone here...have tried a few already :) I do find it a bit difficult trying to find items people have used in other countries, and what Australia sells or the name of products...a bit confusing at times. Where in Australia are you? I am in the Blue Mountains....thanks again :)

Hi Jane, yes I do mine through a community college as well. The planet cake courses are so expensive. But I am happy with my little courses I do. Have met some really nice people so that has been good. I am about to start my 4th term. Im not too far from you really. I am out Campbelltown way.

Hi Alda
Thanks for joining. I normally use Copha as this is a vegetable shortening. I am pretty sure that this is the only one they sell in my local supermarket. It seems to do the job for me. Hope that helps. Melissa

Hi Alda, I also use Copha when vegetable shortening is called for and it works really well. Just a question...What is crumb coating a cake?, have no idea what people are talking about in the forum.
