I've noticed that the brides are starting to select more detailed cakes in my area. A year ago every cake was "I just want a plain cake" no frills, no flowers. How about you guys, are you noticing…Continue

Hello everybody, I am here in Auburn, Alabama, got into cake decorating only last year, since then have been enjoying the world of cake decorating. I still have a long way to go :) am now merging this hobby into home based business. As of now just making cakes for family and friends :)

Hello!

I need some help!  I am interested in starting a cake pop Etsy store as many others have done around the country.  Etsy states that you have to follow your states laws and regulations regarding selling baked goods online. I'm from Alabama and have been trying to research the laws and I feel like I'm not getting anywhere.  This is something that I do on the side and bake from my home.  Does anyone know if it is okay in the state of Alabama?  Your info and help is much appreciated!  Thank you in advance!

Hi all! My name is Tina Crews and I am from a small town in south Alabama near Enterprise. I attended the Alabama Fall DOS in Oct 2012. It was held just south of Birmingham in Pelham, AL. They will be having the Spring DOS in April and the date I received was April 28. They usually do some classes on Sat and Mon and hold the regular meeting on Sunday. The State Rep is actually Barbara Sullivan unlike what ICES has listed on their website. You can reach Barb through her email- barbscakes@hotmail.com

Also if you ever get the chance to take one of Sidney Galpern's classes you must do this! She is an awesome sugar artist!

I have serched for cottage laws on selling cakes from my home here in Alabama after I found out some fellow cakers were turned in for selling cakes from their home and fined. You can only sell cakes from a farmers market, and have to post from your booth and on the cakes that it was made from a non regulated kitchen, and you can't use the internet to sell cakes from your home! Not good news at all. We need to get this changed like it has been in other states.

Hi all! I posted a little while ago, don't know where it went too, it seems to have vanished. Welcome Sharon and Tina to our little group. Yes, Sharon you are correct, we need to be inspected by our local health department and licensed by our local authorities for sales tax to operate a legitimate food business in AL under current laws. Advertising is a privilege paid for by your license so to speak. It's really not that hard to get permitted and licensed and sure beats having to look over your shoulder to fly under the radar. As you've heard there are consequences. I'm amazed at how many advertise so openly on facebook just asking to get caught. Even if a CFL passes here in AL there will probably be rules to comply with to prevent food born illnesses so I wouldn't count on it being a free ride. Sweet blessings to all, Pam

This group was created to help and encourage others in AL who love to decorate and want to further their skills. I hope that we can keep this our objective and not get involved in the politics of legal and illegal. Everyone has to chose for themselves which road they will follow. Happy baking to everyone today.
