Hi, if it's a fondant cake I put the ribbon on and hold it in place with a straight pin on the back of the cake. Make sure it is a long pin and let the person know about the pin. If it is a butter cream cake cut a strip of wax paper the same size of the ribbon and put it behind the ribbon and put a pin at the back of the cake.  I hope this helps.

You can also use royal icing to glue it to the cake - just at the overlap though.

Like Deah, I use RI.

You may want to paint the ribbon all the way around on the back as the RI may darken the ribbon a bit.

Hi, I just made a wedding shower cake and used two different ribbons for both tiers. I googled " how to attach a ribbon on fondant" and it gives you a video. If you cannot find it, message me and I'll tell you how I did it:)
If the ribbon is colour fast, wet it and then wrap it around the cake and it will stick to the fondant. But don't wet it too much or it will affect the fondant.
