Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

I just have a general question.  I know when I signed up that it asks if you are a professional.  I clicked no.  Am I though?  I mean I don't consider myself a professional.  I'm your work at the office by day, bake my night and weekend decorator. I semi-have my own business but it's just word of mouth and usually just for friends.  I've had formal training and I'm not talking about Wilton classes (not that there is anything wrong with that...I'm just saying)  I have my Associates degree in Pastry Arts.  I just graduated in March.  So what would I be considered?  Just curious.

I see your dilema. I don't think there are any hard and fast rules, just use your best judgement.
Well the talk about categories for the contests just got me thinking.
The question doesn't really matter. It's just for our purposes, to know what kind of crowd we have here.
Ok :) that makes me feel better. I just wasn't sure if we would have to pick where to enter eventually or not

I am a beginner/hobbyist and when I see a "professional" I think of them with a bakery that kicks out cakes every single day by the multiples and gets paid for it, it is their livelihood. Or perhaps they are teachers of this art and gets paid because it is their Profession.

I hope everyone understand what I'm saying. If you do cakes for family and friends and you might happened to get paid, it is completely different in my eyes. There are plenty of people who have degrees and let me tell you, they are not using them for their livelihood and/or "Profession" so I think that is okay and all the more power to each of you! I'm jealous!!! LOL.

Now if someone has great experience that is a completely different category altogether and to me nothing like a "Professional". I hope to gain a lot of experience here from all of you!!! I hope one day in the distance future I will be able to teach someone something. All I do now is give my opinion and suggestions, LOL hoping to give another take on their question.

Trisha, you have great experience! So please keep sharing and having fun!
