Hi guys;
I'm soliciting your views on what makes a good cake decorator....

I think a good decorator should be able to take constructive criticism about their cakes.
I believe that a good decorator should be able to listen to the clients wishes, and work with them for the result they want. I was dealing with a decorator who really thought she was doing her clients a favor by selling them on HER ideas because those were her strong points. I tried to convince her that just because it was what she was good at might not be what the client wanted. I love when someone brings pictures of 4 or 5 cakes and says I like this and this and this and this and I can put together what they want. It's never about the designer... it's about the client. And the cakes don't always turn out to my taste but as long as it is what they want... I'm thrilled!
The second point is honesty with yourself. If you truly can not take on what someone has asked you to... be honest and tell them it is above your skill level. I would rather send a client elsewhere and have them happy than to take on something I can not do.
Great answer Jeri - I totally agree!
