Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

Hi guys:

I mostly work with fondant as I do wedding cakes mostly. I made a birthday cake using buttercream and wanted to get it smooth...or as smooth as possible. This is  Jamaica...I don't see any viva paper towels. All the other paper towels have patterns...didn't want patterns...so I said to self...self...how about trying wax paper? And I did...it worked for what it was worth. It was my smoothest buttercream cake ever!!! It wasn't perfect...but it was good. The buttercream didn't crust much (Time was against me) so I'm not sure if it had crusted if the result would have been worse or better. Will try it next time when it crusts.

Hi Teneisha you could use wax paper i use parchment paper. Have you ever tried a scraper for the sides it looks exactly like a cake lifter.
Never tried the scraper...will try it next time. There is a video with Edna De La Cruz where she uses the scraper then the paper towel. I will use parchment paper next time and compare results.

Thanks Shatama

I have several Bench Scrapers and the one l love the most is the Ateco Bench scraper.... it is sooo wonderful. Helps a lot to get those smooth straight edges... here is the one I have:
