never mind why are they so popular, what the heck ARE whoopie pies?
I love whoopie Pies! I'll send you a recipe later this week, Jeri. We have VBS at church until Wednesday so I'll send it to you then.
I love whoopie pies but I still have to buy them because I have not found a really good recipe for them yet. I have the cake part down ok but the filling is not quite there yet.

Wow thanks for the info. I haven't tried the marshmallow fluff with eggs whites. I noticed thay are uncooked egg whites - have you tried it yet and do you think the uncooked egg whites are a health issue.
Hi Tracy, sorry I've never seen a whoopie pie let alone tasted one! :)

Yes they are gaining popularity here. Pans are coming out to help bakers make them and new flavors other than the chocolate and vanilla centers are being introduced too. Not so much in stores or restaurants though. More of a make it yourself kind of thing.
Oh cool - I did not know that - good info. Thanks

Tracy- Unless you are using organic eggs there should not be an issue. The eggs you buy in the grocery store are pasteurized. I on the other hand use fresh eggs from my hens so I must make sure to pasteurize my egg whites myself when I make things like Swiss Meringue Buttercream or Royal Icing.

Oh thanks ... now I just have to figure out what a 'moon' pie is!

A Whoopie Pie is a type of cookie. Basically it is two cake like cookies with a marshmallow cream type icing sandwiched between them. Consider it a homemade version of the Moon Pie (without the chocolate coating). The Whoopie Pie is one of the "classics" that some bakers are trying to revive. Personally I am not fond of them. Too messy and too much sugar.
Whoopie pies are awesome!! They are very popular in the Amish community. We have a bakery here where I live that make the best whoopie pies ever. They fill theirs with buttercream. YUMMMMMMMMMMMMM! While I like the chocolate ones they make, my favorite are the oatmeal.
Two bisciuts sandwiched together with mashmallows then dipped in chocolate, hope you still remember what vetkoek and snowballs are Ingrid :-)
