Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

I have a question? I'm making 25 table cakes for a wedding this weekend the base cake is a 6" round with a 4" round on top. My question is should I put a small dowel threw it or do you think it will be stable enough with just gluing it together with buttercream? Also would I need to put a dowel in the bottom cake to keep the top cake from sinking, all of the cakes are iced with buttercream with rose made of buttercream.

TIA,

Getting very nervious doing all of these cakes!!!!!!!!

I would use straws in the bottome tier for support. You would only need 3 or 4. They are easier to cut than wood dowels, and hold just fine. Have the 4" on a cardboard circle the same size. You wouldn't need a dowel down the middle for these unless the travel is going to be extremely rough! Post pics when done!!
I've never heard of "table cakes" before, so this is something new for me. Is this like, instead of having one large wedding cake, every table gets a mini-wedding cake? Sorry if I sound silly! But you say you are making them two-tiered, 6" and 4"? If it were me, I would put in a few (maybe three) in the middle of each lower, 6" tier, just to make sure! And then place the top tier over it. You probably may not need them, but again, if it were me, I'd rather be safe than sorry! Also, keep in mind, I'm a newbie, myself... others may have better suggestions! Good luck and make sure you post pictures. :-)
I would dowel the bottom one... especially if it is warm out. Heat does funny things to cake. At least a couple dowels to hold up the weight of the top tier.
