Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

I saw a tutorial where they paint a sugar syrup on the cake and it's supposed to keep it longer, does anyone else do this? Does it really make a difference?

Yes Wendy ' it really works. I always keep a bottle of homemade sugar syrup in my fridge. I made a test run of a naked cake. Brushed the cake twice, letting it dry between applications. I deliberately made the cake 3 days early and let it sit on my counter. It was lovely and moist when I cut into it. You can use the syrup plain, or flavour it. If I think my cake may be dry, I know brushing with sugar syrup will make it moist.

how do you make it

Simple....one part sugar, one part water. Heat until sugar has dissolved and is incorporated. That's it. Let it cool before you add your flavouring. Put into a container and store in the fridge. I kept a glass bottle with a screw top lid from something or other, and that's what I keep mine in.
