Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

Im doing a Louis Vuitton cake for someone, first purse cake all excited...etc...until now. To do the pattern on the side. (here's a picture of a LV purse) I can't (or won't for consistency sake) hand paint all these.

I have heard of having a bakery print the pattern on rice paper, I believe, but that it is very fragile, so I'm guessing it won't bend and form to the cake.

So, I cut out the logos (there are 4 different ones) and traced them onto dehydrated sponges?! cut them out, wet the sponges so they'd swell to use like stamps. Good in theory, but the sponge had too many hole and didn't look right.

TAKE TWO - Carved "stamps" out of potatoes, yes you heard right, potatoes, took me hours, but I was like...'oh ya, I'm the man'....NOT...it appears that the potatoes are too moist/wet for the gold paint/gel to stick to it. :-(

So here I am, have one day left to do this cake and dont know what to do...any suggestions please!!!??????? Im desperate!!!

you could go to your local cake shop and get them printed on edible photo paper!!!
And that will still give me some flexibility to form it to the cake? I've never used it before.

Just for fun...here's a pic of my potato "stamps" lol.
yip they are very flexible (@ least the ones i did were.... you just need to wet the backs of them to stick them on
can you make a stencil they have blank stencil material at hobby stores.  there is also a way to make your own rubber stamps but I have never tried that good luck
yes, I was thinking that too. Didn't know you could buy blank stencils though. Was gonna use a piece of cardboard and try that. Thanks

I've seen people use the foamie craft stuff - carve that.  You know what I'm talking about - those foam sheets, stickers, door hangers and random stuff you see at Michael's and the dollar stores - crafts for kids mostly.  You can get a thicker piece of that foam and carve your logos in that.  I think I have a Gucci purse coming up - that's my plan.  I've never done it, but one of my cake teachers showed me hers.
Ahhh yes! I even have some of that on hand! THANKS KIM! Gonna start cutting now! I'll post pics of the cake when done. YAY! Thank you everyone!

A little harder to cut tiny details than I expected...will try exacto knife, scissors not gettin' it.

:(
Gonna try again.

Whenever you take on detail like that it will take hours to get it done!  Love the potato idea... but the moisture would be a problem.  The foam sounds like a good idea.. I'd probably make a stencil out of thin plastic and use it to paint them on but sounds like you are ready to roll with the foam.
