Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

I know I have seen different things on this site about the figures, but I can't seem to find what I am looking for so I am just going to ask.

I am making a Noah's Ark cake for a baby shower.  I am trying to decide if I am going to make sculptured animals, seen so many examples or cut out animals.  The sculpted ones are so cute, and since itis a two teir cake it would work out.  I figured I would make the bottom look like the ark and have the animals coming out the top.

What is the best medium for the sculpting gumpaste, fondant, mix?  I am going to start working on them and just want to make sure I use the right materials.  I just hope the come out looking like anamils and not blobs.

THis is how the cake came out...... I used 50/50 mixture and they are a little primative, but it was my first attempt... Also my first attempt at WASC and I have to say it was good. I will be making that reciepe for all my white cake for now on. Thanks to all my CWB Friends for showing me some really cool new things!!!
