Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

i am making a witches cauldron cake and used a pyrax bowl for the bottom layer and 2 9 in rounds for the top. last night i filled it then used a dowl rod through the middle, shortly after that when i was getting ready to dirty ice it the bottom layer collapsed, i believe that the weight of the other two layers was just too much. problem is i still need that bottom layer but not sure if i should try the bowl again or just use anthor 9 in and sacrafice haveing more of a rounded cauldron...this cake is for tomorrow so  im running out of time. pleeease help

It’s hard to tell you without seen the cake, but if any chance I would use it and just refinish the whole cauldron. Make sure that your dowels on the bottom tier are all the same length. I hope that helps.

You need to be sure you have enough supporting dowels through the cauldron cake and cakeboards under the upper layers to sit on top of the dowels.  One dowel rod up through the center doesn't strengthen the cauldron layer at all, it just helps the height not tip over.  Use at least 4 dowels the same height as the bowl layer, and stand them all very straight in the cake, then place the next layer on top of them with a cake board under it.  For each tier, you need a few dowels and boards to disperse the weight of the upper cake over the bottom.

Good luck!
