It’s hard to tell you without seen the cake, but if any chance I would use it and just refinish the whole cauldron. Make sure that your dowels on the bottom tier are all the same length. I hope that helps.
You need to be sure you have enough supporting dowels through the cauldron cake and cakeboards under the upper layers to sit on top of the dowels. One dowel rod up through the center doesn't strengthen the cauldron layer at all, it just helps the height not tip over. Use at least 4 dowels the same height as the bowl layer, and stand them all very straight in the cake, then place the next layer on top of them with a cake board under it. For each tier, you need a few dowels and boards to disperse the weight of the upper cake over the bottom.
