Placement on cakes
It may be a silly question, but is there a specific way to place dots or pearls on a wedding cake. I want them to look nice and not too clustered. Any help would be welcome.

Depands on what look you are wanting to achieve... there are a bizillion ways to place them... Can you give us an idea of what you want? A lot of pearls... not many ... in a pattern... around the base???? I have a cake in August for a wedding that will have the bubble style pearls on it and they will cascade kind of in a swirl from the bottom to the top of a square cake it will be different but it is what the bride wants. I usually listen to how they want it and go from there

First of all thanks so much for getting back to me so quickly. This is a godsend having such talented people to question. I really truly appreciate it. Just want to keep it simple. She is having a backyard wedding and only needs a half sheet cake. I'm adding a 1/4 sheet on top for dimension because she wanted gumpaste cala lillies on top. I thought that I would add some pearls to make it more interesting so I guess I want to place them all over the cake.

What I have found that works for me Carol is....place the top (or you can start at bottom) row of dots (pearls etc) and space out the dots as far apart as you want, row two is placed exactly between the dots above in row 1, row three would line up vertically with row one and so on...its eyeballing it for sure but it has worked for me.

I guess I am having a brain fart because I am not sure...did you want them evenly spaced or random? The easiest is if you do the quilted diamonds and place a pearl at the intersection of the diamond. If you do not want the quilted look you can print a diamond shape out from the computer then lay it on and do the diamonds at the intersection of each... cut a few so it goes faster. If you want them random just start small and add more as you go as you get what you are looking for... My brain is overloaded from school today so I am probably making no sense what so ever! Sorry

No actually you are making a lot of sense. So helpful. Thanks for taking the time to explain. It seems sometimes the simplest things throw me. I'm just a perfectionist and want them to come out exactly right. I really appreciate the answer.
