Hi Frances.  I haven't done an oil rig, but I did do the Eiffel Tower (see my pics).  Not a great result, but learned a lot from it.  An oil rig could be based on the same sort of idea.  Or have you tried googling oil rig cake and changing the display to 'images'?  I did that and got quite a few pictures of oil rig cakes.  Good luck.  Don't forget to post it when it's done!
