Hi all my name is Diane. I live on Vancouver Island and am very new to cake decorating. My daughter got engaged in February2012 and I had the brilliant idea, I wanted to make her cake. I began by reading and watching everything about cake making on the Internet. Finally my husband suggested I take a course. So I took the first 3 wilton courses. I have been thoroughly enjoying my new hobby. The part I dislike the most is baking the cakes, this I am certainly not an expert at, but keep practicing. I look forward to learning new techniques and tips from forums on here.
wellcome Diane ; ) you will love this site !

Hi Mary, I'm Sylvia, I joined this september. I also had only worked with buttercream until recently, I took the plunge with fondant and I love it. I was so afraid to work with it, but it's getting easier for me now. Give it a try, we only learn by our mistakes!!! Welcome to Cakes we bake!

Hi I am 54 years old. I live in Charleston SC. I enjoy doing cakes as a hobby just for family and close friends and especially the children.  I have not taken cake decorating classes. After looking on You tube I got hooked on cakes so I just researched and looked at a lot of videos.  I have never attempted to do royal icing or fondant. I have only stuck with butter cream. One day I may get brave enough to try some other things.

I just wanted to thank all of you for all the information that I am reading and learning on this forum. Much to read and much to learn!!! I have really enjoyed looking at the cake pictures also.  I can see there are many talented and artistic people here.  I am glad that I found this forum!!!!

Welcome Mary
You found a great place to learn & make cake friends. :0)
Welcome fellow Canadian Dianne
You will learn much from this site. I made my daughter's wedding cake. I wish I has known this site was here when I did. Although all things considered, it came out alright. Is there a Wedding date yet?? You have time to practice. :0)
Thanks June, and yes the date is May 25th 2013. I'm most freaked about having the timing down for making it. Since I'm the mother of the bride I will be doing much more than the cake. I really enjoy making gumpaste flowers. I just made my first bouquet topper, it turned out well but I think the gage of my wire is too thin, some of the leaves and flowers fell off. thank goodness I have some time left to practice. I look forward to learning more tips and techniques.

Thank you, I look forward to learning and sharing here.

May/2013...... Lots of time to practice Diane. I was working full time when I made my daughter's cake. Even tho I booked off my 2 wks vacation before & after the wedding, I still baked & froze her cakes a month in advance. A real time saver. Lucky for me my daughter wanted 'simple" as cakes go. She also didn't want gumpaste/b/c flowers, but real, so that was also easier. Her pics were taken locally, so we were able to scoot home before the reception, and I went about 45 min before to set up the cake. I also made 3 large slab cakes to be served as dessert, but took those in the day before. Very exciting for you!!  :o)

Welcome Diane, Sylvia
Great place to pick brains and start doing things.
All I can say is... Ask, do and enjoy
The things we learn every time we make something is unbelievable. So just keep on doing it.. We have all be there done that.
And everyone her on this site is awesome. Someone will know something if you need help.
Good luck and keep on being sweet.
