Welcome Marla
Ok Annie
I am on my IPod, or I would cut & paste an article here. There are lots & lots of videos on YouTube. If you want step by step pictures, try: www.fabulous-cakes.com. She has good info their. Google stacking cakes and there will be a plethora of info to choose from.
Hope that helps.

Hi Annie, well I have just come across  that same dilema myself... I tried to stack buttersponge to make a tea pot chape and found it all squished down. I have now reverted to using my old reliable and changed it to a fruit cake.  There are tutorials on youtube (my caking bible) one of the girls on there addresses stacking and such.  Good luck. sorry I couldn't be of more help to you :)

Hi, My name is Kimberly and I am a stay at home mom and house wife. I have been a crafter, painter etc... ( Jack of all Trades and Master of none) for many years. I just recently decided to make my son his 5th birthday cake and I have fallen in love with cakes and decorating. I joined this site about a week ago and am totally in awe of the beautiful cakes and the talented artist on this community. I have a wonderful husband and two beautiful boys. My oldest is 25 and my baby is 5 ( yes, I know what was I thinking) they are my world. I also have a beautiful daughter-in-love who has earned my respect and love in so many ways. This community has already taught me so many things from recipes to techniques that I will try to master for my family and friends. Its so exciting to make a Birthday cake that looks good and taste great too. I love that everyone on here is is willing to share their cakes and experience. I can only hope to be as talented as the artist that post on this site. Thanks so much for sharing with hobby people like me.

Welcome to the site Kimberly.  It is a wonderful place which am sure you are going to love.  There is only one problem......it is highly addictive.  lol

Well my, my Kimberly

Such wonderful praise.  Welcome to the site. I remember the very first cake I made. It was a smurfette cake for my daughters birthday. She just turned 32 five days ago!! It was a wilton rental pan and the whole cake was star tipped. I started after the children were in bed, and I was up to 3am finishing. It had to be perfect, even tho it was only for a party of six yr olds!!! That was the beginning for me. I then took lessons from a cake shop owner. Dabbled on & off for years while working & running my kids to sports events. Fast forward. My niece got married 6 yrs ago & I offered to make the wedding cake. I thought, how hard can this be???  Fortunately for me, with  little experience, the cake turned out well. I was hooked and jumped back on the decorating band wagon again. Found this site about a year ago or so and go on everyday to see what my fellow cakers have done. I get great inspiration, knowledge & friendship here.  I am just a hobby baker. I am newly retired and not interested in being in business. Do it for family & friends & enjoyment.

Looking to see your creations posted Kimberly.   :o)
