Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

Another Google find. This recipe is also known as cake goop. I have tried it and it works every bit as well as Wilton's Cake Release (which I love)

Cake Goop Recipe

1 part shortening
1 part vegetable oil
1 part flour

Use whatever quantities you like, for whatever amount you need. Thoroughly combine all ingredients, until smooth.
Apply an even, moderate coat to entire inside of pan.
I keep mine in a covered plastic container in my refrigerator, with a pastry brush inside, so it's always ready to use.
I have gotten far better results with nice even, clean releases of
cakes and muffins using this mixture than I ever got with regular
oiling or buttering of pans and then coating with flour. Much cheaper
than similar commercial products. If you do a lot of baking, it's worth
keeping around.

This is what I use it. I make up a big batch and keep it in my refiigerator...works great.
I use the same recipe...its wonderful. I like it, for its no mess each time I have to prepare a pan for baking goodies. And it has never failed me.
Yes, this is the same "cake goop" that a well-known cake decorator around these parts uses too. He told us about it at a cake class a few months ago. We were all taking notes on this stuff - it works great! I'm so over cutting out those parchment circles/squares!
Thanks so much for posting it. I'm using it today!
So you don't need to put flour after you used this? (I know there's flour in the recipe, but I thought I'd make sure...)
No, Jennifer, just apply with a pastry brush and that is it!
Thank you so much for sharing this!! I HATE to grease and flour my pans. I almost bought cake release a few weeks ago, but I just couldn't make myself pay that much. I will be buying the stuff for this when I buy groceries today!!! Hooray! :-)

I have used this "goop" since the mid 70's when I took my first cake deco class from one of the first Ladies in Canada to hold her Masters' from Wilton!
It is a "must" item for any kitchen where there is even a "minute" of baking being done.
Great site!
I'm off to explore....
Ciao!
I've always wondered about the Wilton cake release, just never wanted to spend that much money....I will definitely be trying this out!
Really Susie......when ya think about it...what have ya got ta lose?...1 cup of each!...lolol.....works out to be cheaper than a burned up cake, right?....lololol

Oh wow, it's fantastic stuff my cakes just fell out of the tin, thank you
