Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

HELP!!! I need to make carnations ASAP and I've never made them before! I see that most are made from gum paste.....can I make them with fondant? If yes, where can I find instructions? Otherwise, I found the instructions on the Wilton site for royal icing carnations, so I'll try making those.

I'm making an anniversary cake for this Friday night. Their wedding colours were yellow and brown. I want to keep it simple, so I'm going to cover cake in white fondant and put a brown fondant 'ribbon' around the bottom with a yellow lace pattern on it. Then I'm going to make a bouquet of monochromatic yellow carnations on the top.

Anyway, that's the plan...This is my first cake for an actual event, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Luckily, it's only for my in-laws! :o)

Hi Dia, I think we have two different videos on here for making carnations. You can just add tylose powder to your fondant to make your flowers harden up better. It's not that you can't make them from fondant, but the petals will dry in place better with the addition of tylose powder.
here is an interesting way of making them.... I just watched this video but haven't tried it myself
