Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

I am in the process of making a wedding cake. Very large but will go into that later.I am working on a topper that the couple wanted of two people in a heart... not bad to do with having a pic of what they want. I am making it out of gum paste and am running short on time and am wondering if there is a way to get it to dry faster without it falling apart. It is about an inch thick and about 4-5 inches tall. Any help would be very very much needed.

Turn your oven light on and sit the gumpaste stuff in there overnight. Don't turn the oven on, just the light. The light will make enough heat to speed up the drying time.
Another alternative is using a fan. I set mine on a cooling rack so air circulates under it and put a small fan just a few inches away.
i use both of these techniques with good results. I tend to use the oven light most as then things drying are a little more out of my way! Good luck!!!!
Is the heart an inch thick? that sounds kinda thick...that may be one reason why it isnt drying...maybe Im not getting what you are doing...do you have a pic you can post?
Thanks for the advice. I used the fan on it over night and it was dry in time. The reason it was so large was because the bride wanted this heart for her cake topper. This was the largest cake I have done to date and was a little worried about it., but thank Gods it turned out great. will post pics soon.
well here are the pics

The pics are really sall but they look nice from what I can see....

I am making table plaques for my friend's daughter's wedding and they are only 1/8" thick.....I am using a 50/50 mix of gumpaste and marshmallow fondant and they are plenty strong....next time try that for your toppers...they will dry alot faster too.
and that would be "small"
Next time you will know to make all those pieces ahead of time. I like to have them all done at least a week or more in advance so they will dry well ahead of time. The cake looks nice! Can't see it real well because the pics are so small but it looks like it turned out very nice.
hi karen, do you have that recipe for marshmallow fondant? would love to add that to my recipe lists.. thanks

Sure Shirley...

Marshmallow Fondant with Lemon Juice
Ingredients:

16 oz. mini marshmallows
2 Tbsp water
2 tsp lemon juice (fresh or bottled)
2 tsp light corn syrup
1 tsp vanilla
2 lbs (approx 7 C) confectioner's sugar, sifted
1/2 C vegetable shortening

Directions:

Grease microwave proof bowl w/ shortening. Also grease wooden or heat proof spoon. Pour marshmallows and water into bowl. Microwave for approximately 2 minutes stopping and stirring at 40 second intervals. Mixture should be soupy.

Take out of microwave and immediately add corn syrup, lemon juice, and vanilla, Stir well. Sift confectioner's sugar into mixture, one cup at a time. After approximately 6 cups, grease your hands with shortening and knead the mixture in the bowl. . Now grease your work surface well and turn mixture out of bowl onto counter. Sift remaining sugar, re-grease hands, and knead well. If mixture seems soft, add one additional cup of powdered sugar.

Shape into a mound and put a coating of shortening on outside. Double wrap in cling wrap and insert into ziplock bag. Press air out of bag and seal. Allow to rest overnight, but, can be used after sitting for a few hours.
