Hi Carol, grapes in gum paste or fondant aren't that hard. Number one, you do not have to have a stem on every grape. Make up all of your grapes in a variety of similar colors and start placing them on top of each other in a fashion that looks like a cluster. You only need to have maybe one or two actual grapes that have a stem coming out from them. I've included a picture of a close up of the grapes that I did for my basket cake. Adding other colors onto each grape using petal dust will give you the look that fools the eye into thinking they are real grapes, along with having a variety of colors of grapes on each cluster. As you can see from my picture, there is only one grape that has a stem. The full picture of this cake is in my photos. Hope this helps.=O) (I'm ashamed to say my tablecloth was a bit wrinkled in the picture.)
What I did, Carol, was first off, place a cluster of 'real' grapes in front of me for inspiration. Then I colored about three or four different shades of the mauve and the deep purple matching the color to the real grapes. Once I had all of the grapes formed, I placed them on the cake the way I wanted them and glued each one with gum paste glue. I only stuck a green wire that was about 1/2" to an inch long into 2 or 3 grapes for the entire basket and placed it so that it looked like it was just a little bit away from the main cluster. Once I had all of the grapes where I wanted them, I went back with a dry brush and a light pinkish and burgundy petal dust and brushed a little on each grape here and there-not all over the grape. Just enough to give it contrast.

Wow! They look so good. I can't thank you enough for replying to my question. I have bee looking everywhere for a tutorial. I love the way your grapes drape. Did you use wire for the stem? Did you make your grapes with two different colors and dust them withi k and purple luster dust?
