Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

Hello bakers! I have a question regarding glueten free baking. I haven't baked gluten free in 12 years, so a lot has changed since then. I have an order for gluten free "funfetti" cupcakes and wondered if there was an inexpensive mix. I would make them from scratch, but this order is for a fundraiser, so I can't spend a lot on ingredients. The less I spend, the more goes to the charity. Has anyone tried any mix before? Also, the sprinkles that make it "funfetti" do not label is they are gluten free, does anyone know where to find some? Thanks for all your help!!!!

I have tried betty crocker and pamela's mixes, both with the cake mix doctor goes gluten free recipes - they are pretty good.  The chocolate mixes are definately less noticably gluten free than the vanilla though.  I'm not sure on the sprinkles.

Thank you so much! I'll try them out!! :)

HI Bethany, I am not familiar with a cake mix or recipe, but an FYI for the future.I work for a company called PhotoFrost and we manufacture edible sheets and inks for cakes cupcakes cookies chocolate etc. All of our products are Kosher, FDA approved, free of gluten and trans fat.You could possibly take our color sheets and punch it with a hole punch and incorporate the colors in your batter. I have not tried this yet but its a thought. If there is anything that I can do for you or if you would like a sample of our product please feel free to contact me. thank you Stephanie at letsdecorate@photofrost.com

Hi Bethany

I am Canadian, any Mix in the supermarket we can't get here.  We have a bulk store though, and mine carries both vanilla & chocolate gluten free cake mix.  It is pretty reasonable.  I had to make a wedding cake & cheesecake last Nov that was gluten free.  As far as the "sparles", they are mostly sugar/glucose.  It is the flour that is the problem.  Wheat, rye....etc... My son's girlfriend is going through a process as her Doctor believes she is intolerant to gluten.

So perhaps if you have a bulk store near you can ck their website, or call them and see what they have that is gluten free.  Hope this helps.
