can any tell us how to keep Ganache from getting dusty looking , after putting on a cake , with a spatula ?

lol Gail - I just put a comment on your cut the ganache page!  So here it is again for a wider audience - 

add butter, oil or corn syrup to it will keep it shiny.  If you're going to put the cake in the fridge after ganaching it, make sure the cake is completely cold before you do, or the chocolate will dull.
