Help!!  I am trying to cover a globe shaped cake in fondant and I keep ending up with bunches of gathered pleats on the lower sides and bottom of the cake.  Is there a way to cover it without this happening?  Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Wendy, just keep smoothing the fondant downwards. Since it stretches, you can smooth out those pleats. It just takes some patience.
You can try modelling chocolate too. You can actually cut it so it has a seam and smooth the seam right out, unlike with fondant. =]

Covering a sphere is probably the biggest pain in the a$$ there is.
Amen sister!! Thank you so much for the advice.
