Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

I've seen a lot of photos of cakes on here where the fondant looks like satin - it has a nice "sheen" to it.  Can you tell me how to achieve that?  Is it airbrushed?  Something you knead into the fondant?

I'm asking because I'm doing a bra cake (yes, a bra cake) and would like to make it look satiny.

I have steamed them right before pick up,,, What it does is slightly melts it,, Make sure you dont hold it to close or very long,, you just want to shin the cake

How much in advance can you steam the cake prior to delivery? Will steaming the cake make the fondant softer/ "melt"? And what is the best way to store a steamed cake?

Sorry for all the questions... I am very new to this

I airbrush them to get the sheen look,, But if you want just shiny then you can steam them,, :)
I steamed the ladybug on my cake this weekend the night before and it was still pretty the next day. I love how the steaming cleans up all the powdered sugar so nicely.
I use pearl dust, antique satin dust, sparkle white dust etc on a lot of my cakes that have the sparkle and I use a huge brush that is kind of like a blush brush but I got it at Michalel's in the art brush section. I put the dust in a small bowl and just brush it on very small amounts at a time and then keep brushing to get all the excess off and it gives the fondant that pearl look.... Be sure if you use this method you do not have any windows open or fans blowing... you will have dust everywhrere. I put foil on the table under it and can reuse any dust that falls onto the table. I have not tried the steam yet. I have a steamer... just have not tried it. I know alot of the big guns use steamers. I don't use any dust on my mat when rolling out my fondant so never have that issue.
