I'm trying to teach myself to do some flowers and started with simple cut outs of different sizes layered together. I did these a couple of days ago in just fondant (white and black rolled together to get a variegated effect). Every time I touch them now, another bit drops off lol! Is it because I am just using fondant and it needs something to firm it up some? I would like my flowers to be edible, but would also like them to hold up. I know you ladies will have the answer to this, so I await your advices thank you!

Thanks for the compliment but as I said if i can do it so can you it's only been 2 years since my 1st cake and when I look back on it I see how Stodgy the flowers where the trick is trying to do it with smaller pieces of paste each time things like the lily stamens are really good to practice with try and get the smallest piece of paste you can smoothly down the wire it just takes practice and patience. and yeah he's still threatening says i'm not nice to know when I'm stressed about getting a cake finished in time lol can't imagine what he means hahaha! me stressed never happens (I dont think!!!).
Ah - there's that word again. PATIENCE.......xx
I think you flowers look very nice. I know you will be able to get them so they don't drop off. Don't give up and keep trying. The people on this site have some great ideas about what to do and how to fix the flowers. Take a picture of your final cake with flowers when you get them right and I am sure you will do fine!!!
Hun i maybe late on the reply but yes you need to use gum paste, they are still edible they just need good strong teeth lol. But you could try royal icing they are pretty hardy.
Royal icing eh? Scary thought..............
