Wow great ideas....and good way to use existing cake pans to get a shape that you need :) I would also like to see the final cake!! :)
I was at Michael's the other day and on their clearance rack was diamond shape pans... set of 3 on the clearance rack for $15..... I know I am a little late but thought I'd throw it out there
Suziq, I like this example and 8" tin, will use this method next time. Mine is 16x14 (when I asked what size cake she wanted she said A3 size!!)
I keep looking at it hoping it's big enough but it still has to have marzipan and fondant on. fingers crossed.
Thanks x ;-)
Susiq was definitely a mathematician in a former life! Clever girl
The Cake is finished, what a nightmare I have had with this one!!
The cake was covered with marzipan & I rolled out the fondant placed it on the cake smoothed, then noticed a great big air bubble ! ( horror) tried lifting the fondant back of the cake & it ripped. As I tried taking all the fondant off the cake the marzipan was coming away with it...
anyway managed to repair & recover.
The ribbon, well that's another story, this was purchased from the person having the cake. Specially personalised. I find it easier to put a ribbon on a cake when it has been dipped into cooled boiled water, so this is the method I used but when I was removing the water the writing came off!!
Anyway shall not bore you any more - it's not my favourites of cakes but here is the final product.
Very nice .. are they "pearls" around the bottom ?
Remember ... those cakes that challenge us are the ones that we learn to most from ...
No Suziq they are silver balls, very true something I have learn't is I will never put lustre dust on a whole cake again, unless I invest in a spray machine. I have had the light switched on then off used a brush then a sponge & I still keep looking at it thinking no
Oh Lord Mandy - nightmare city for you. So distressing isn't it? But you came out good kiddo, so don't beat yourself up about it.
