Has anyone had trouble with the Costco powdered sugar? I think there must be a higher percentage of cornstarch in it, because I have to throw out the gum paste I made with it. It is dry as can be and like a rock.

No Costco here. It's it their name brand? I use Domino from Sam's Club (or I did). I've also never made my own gum paste. Sorry that happen to you. I hate when things have to be wasted. (Product & time) I feel sure we all feel that way. Good luck next time.
Yes Theresa, I have had trouble with them. I was making icing for my cookies, which I will post, and had to add more liquid to it in order to get it smoother. It's such a large bag and I would hate to toss it out. Domino's is my #1.
Don't toss out your Costco items. Believe me, they are very understanding and you can return it to them and just tell them it is not working well for your use. They will credit your account (CC) or give you cash or a in-store credit card for the amount. Costco is my Number 1 place to shop because of their quality of items and return policy. They do care.
My Costco has C&H powder sugar and I know again for a fact, that Costco in different states have different items, weird but very true - I know from my own experience. My Costco does not have a Kirkland brand in our store for powder sugar.
So Terrie, was it C&H or does you Costco have their own brand of Kirkland or something else? Then if you call the 800 number on the packaging of the powder sugar, they will tell you who is the manufacturer of the product. For instance, Kirkland Coffee is made and supplied by Starbucks! And yes, our Costco carries Starbucks coffee too. You can do that for any "Kirkland" brand items. Call the number on the package and find out who it is.
Terrie, please do tell if you purchased "Kirkland" brand or another brand selling through Costco and who is the supplier.
Thanks a bunch!
Sher
I buy all my powderd sugar from Costco and never have a problem... but It is C&H that I buy. I get the 4 lb bags. It is cheaper to get the 25 lb bags (or 50 lbs whatever they are) but Powdered sugar makes such a mess in those big bags that it is worth it to me to get the 4 lb bags. But I have NEVER had any trouble with it at all. I don't buy the house brand in any store because I have not had luck that way. I am curious to know what brand you are using??? Want to avoid it :-) Did you try putting your gumpaste in the microwave for 10 seconds? That usually softens it right up.
The one that I picked up was called "US" at Costco. I have had to add additional water to my cookie icings. Haven't tried using it for anything else.
It was the U.S. brand. The last time I made fondant with it, it was very dry too, and I had to doctor it. There was just no salvaging the gum paste. It was like a bunch of pebbles. I made it the same exact way with Dominos and it came out perfect. Neither package indicates the percentage of cornflour in it, so it's just trial and error.

And thank you for your tip, Sher. I'm very, very lazy about returning stuff. I know most women can't relate, but I HATE shopping and I can't deal with standing in lines. So, I never return anything.
Theresa, I'm the same way. I don't like returning things so I just get stuck with it. In this case, I'm using the US brand for royal icing to coat my cookies with. I did use it to make flowers with and it wasn't bad at all but will not go any further than that.
