Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

ok....i've been using the same recipe for some time now for my cutout cookies. today i made 2 batches. the first batch i rolled cut and baked and they came out perfect. the second batch, made right after the first batch, the cookies spread somewhat.....i'm a stickler for perfection and i'm real upset about this. does anyone know what i did wrong? or what would make this happen? thanks

I hate when they spread. You know what helps? Chill the dough first.
I'm not a cookie person but I wondered if the dough was too warm.
When the second match melts on you, it's usually because you are placing it on a warm pan. The butter in the dough starts melting before it even gets in the oven. Have enough pans to rotate so you give the pans ample time to cool down.
I meant batch not match. I'm bleary-eyed.

thanks everyone, but theresa i think you nailed it....the pans were warm....duh! i should have thought of that....i tried to unload and load as quick as possible, because it was so hot here yesterday. that's got to be it!
I tend to work with two/three trays and only put in one at a time so that it allows the first pan to cool while the second is in the oven and filling the third.
thanks diana!
Lisa- I think it is the warm pans also- but one recipe that I use that has NEVER failed me is the No Fail Sugar Cookie recipe. Have you tried that? It never spreads and I have made it a lot! You can email me if you need the recipe.

For your own protection, guys, don't post your email addresses where spammers can't get ahold of them. Exchange them in private messages.
