I will do anything to get out of making cake pops... but when I do... I just make the cake of my choice (or use left over cake) crumble it up very fine... add a little buttercream just enough to bind the cake together.  Make into balls then dip in the chocolate.  You can add shortning to chocolate chips OR easier use the candy melts... C&K... merkens... wiltons... they all work about the same but I like the flavor of merkens the best.

Thanks so much ill have to go see what my cake shops stocks as alot of the brands you guys use i cant get in sa

I have made cake pops from scratch Wendy..... in my opinion,  a LOT of work. I bought a cake pop maker on sale. Much easier.  I can tell you, I would make cupcakes & fancy them up because as jeri said, I would avoid all the mess.  I actually just use chocolate chips I bought at the grocery store for dipping.  First time I did them, so hard, then I found the shortening trick. That really,  really works well. When I made my Easter Cake Pops, I really thinned the chocolate chips.....  so much easier to dip.  And it gave the pops a nice glossy finish.   :o)

Cool thanks i saw a pop maker set last weekend didnt really look but i will this weeken, how much shortening( or as its called here vegetable fat should i add to the choc? What thickness should the choc be? Do u have pics of ur pOps?
Haven't any pics. When you put in your spoon & stir the chocolate, lift it up and it should run off in a nice trickle. Add as much "fat" as you think necessary to get the consistency you need. Melt your chocolate in the micro a couple of min at a time. If on top of the stove, use a double boiler, or a bowl sitting in the pot of simmering water. Bowl shouldn't be touching the water. I have a cake pop stand, came with the machine, much easier to put the pops in so they can dry. You will need to dip them at least twice to get good coverage. Especially if the chocolate mixture is thin. But better to do x's 2, then struggle dipping in a thick mixture. Make sure you secure your Pop to your stick with chocolate. Let it dry before you begin dipping.
:o)
Thanks so much can u email me a pic of ur pop machine and frame wendynel0407@gmail.com
Thanks girls for all the advise and tips pls see pics iv posted and feel free to let me know what u think and if u have. Any more advise or tips for me thanks again

None of my pops are ever picture worthy!  ;-)  They taste good but nothing I want to brag about for sure!  I always goo over the pics that others post and love them!   You can also use paramount crystals if you can get them.  They work well to thin out chocolate too!  Good luck hope you have a better time with them than I do!

Thanks it is hard work ill def say that much, but dont think they came out to badly concidering was only the second time iv done them i uploaded pics but was battling a Bit

You did a great job on them!
