Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

The last edition of the Cake Central Magazine has a tutorial on cake pops. The instructions are to dip the cake pops in chocolate melts for that smooth, pretty effect. Is there something else that we can use? I thought about pouring fondant? What do you think?

Hellloooooooooooooo, anyone???? June, Gail, Goreti...my girls

lol Sandra, sorry.  Been off my head baking and decorating today (whilst simultaneously looking after sick hubby and printing stuff out for grandkids lol.  Why do people think I am hanging up behind the door waiting for them to give me something to do?).  Anyway, imo you could dip them in absolutely anything that is of the right consistency.  As long as it's going to coat and set reasonably firmly, I see no reason why pouring fondant shouldn't work.  so there.

jejejeje, thank you Katy. (Wow, you are really busy today- me too) I have another wedding cake for this weekend and she also wants 24 of those cake pops.  ARRRRG.  But do you know if they taste good, I mean cake dipped into white chocolate?

Yes they do Sandra.  I did some covered in white chocolate and they were truly scrumptious!  (As long as you like white choc that is).  Good luck with 24 of them - yuck what a mess you are going to get into...................

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, you are so meany...jijijijjijiji

I personally like white chocolate.  The bride asked for chocolate cake pops covered in beige color.  She does not have any idea what they are covered with.  I thought it was fondant until I received the magazines that has the tutorial on them covered in white chocolate.  So I mentioned it to my friend what I was planning to do and she seemed disgusted.  That's when I decided to ask if anyone have tried them,,,so I go by your word Katy.  Not pressure.  xoxo

Mix white and milk chocolate together to get the beige colour?

My daughter made cake pops for my nephews wedding this past May. There posted on my page. They were messy to make, but absolutely yummy. My daughter should have used a glass measuring cup & the micro. But she used a pot on the stove....with NO double boiler...ruined a lot of chocolate..it went hard. A trick Sandra, before you start, line up your cake pops, melt a small amt of chocolate. Dip each cake pop stick in the chocolate, and put into the pop. Let the chocolate set up.  Then you can hang on the the stick and dunk the cake pop into the melted chocolate.  It's not fool proof....worked about 99% of the time.

Have fun!!!!  :o)

Lol, I was told it was going to be messy...I don't like messy...but yes, definitely will do it that way. Thanks June. Did you try them to see if they tasted good? Katy said they are,,,I'm crossing my fingers.

Yes they were very good. Now I must say, I made a batch at Christmas to give to my nieces & nephews, and they were pure dark chocolate. I am not a big fan of white chocolate. You know Sandra, you could just cut out rounds of fondant and apply them to the cake pops, then put in the sticks. If these were rct, wouldn't you do the same? Isn't it the same principal. Add a tiny bit of cocoa powder to some ivory fondant and that should make it beige??

Just a thought.   :0)

I absolutely love making cake pops! And they also taste so good!!  I do not find it messy at all.  If you have your chocolate melted in a tall beaker then you should have no mess.  Dip, take of all the excess chocolate and set aside.  I usually use Wiltons candy melts.

I should say Sandra, I have a litte electric melting pot suppose to be used for butter I got on sale at Michael's. Once I heat up the candy in the micro, I put it in their. Keeps chocolate at constant temperature. Like Meera says,  there was some dripping, but on the whole it wasn't too, too messy. The usual when baking, always a little bit messy. More time consuming then anything else.  :o)

Yes definitely time consuming depending on the design of the pop.  But if its basic with sprinkles those are fun and simple to do!! :)
