Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

I am planning on making a bottle of Captain Morgan. I have two half Wiltons bowling pin cake pan. What can I use to keep these together while I bake a cake in them? I would love to do this 3D. if this is possible should I bake it standing up or lying down? all suggestions are appreciated...

Patricia - I would bake the two halves separately as I don't think you can bake them together (maybe I'm wrong?), but the way a cake bakes, the top will not "fill in" the pan on top and I think you'd have a big mess on your hands.  That said, I have no idea how you would put the two halves together and actually have them stay together to do an upright 3D bottle - my guess is they would fall apart.  You could lay the bottle down and do one bowling pin on the bottom, one on the top (maybe make it look like some rum is spilling out when you decorate it??).  If you really want to do an upright bottle, my suggestion would be to stack small cakes (4" or 6" rounds), then make the top part out of rice krispie treats.  Good luck!

I have done an upright bottle, but I did it out of layers/tiers. (I think it was 22" tall - but I can't remember) As long as you use support for your tiers there isn't a problem.  (hope that helps)
