You could always make them out of Royal Icing

thank you Ladybug. I do want to use gumpaste. I do like to use Royal Icing but dont know where I would start with that..

Check your flower cutters!  I just had to do this yesterday.  I found a kinda oval looking petal for the bottom wings.  For the top wings, I cut a general triangle shape and fiddled with it.  If you have paisley cutters that may be perfect.

Almost forgot...for the body, make a rope then clip the very end with scissors to split the tip in half.  Those are the antennas!

Patricia, just print a picture off the internet that you like. Lay it over your fondant and imprint the image with a toothpick. Then cut with an exacto blade or sharp knife.

Same for royal icing. Cover your picture with waxed paper or nonstick parchment and pipe over the design in as many colors as you like. Look at Gail's royal and chocolate butterflies for inspiration,http://www.cakeswebake.com/photo/p1080511?context=user

Wedding tulle also makes nice butterfly wings. Just pipe in the veining and ouline with royal icing.

small heart shaped cookie cutters could make the wings and then just roll an oval shape for the body.

You can also get printed butterflies with PhotoFrost. They can be contacted at352-528-9292

Cute idea Denice. For little tiny ones I would try this.
