Merging Natural looking cake with black and white - huh?

My sister just told me today that she's finally getting married. Next conversation was the cake. She emailed me photos of a wedding cake designed to look like a birch tree and a few cakes done in black and white. She wants to combine these ideas. To me, black and white is the complete opposite of a natural looking cake. My sister is into the woods and dirt bikes. She's my complete opposite! Any ideas? Thanks, cake buddies :)

Hi Theresa! Congrats on the good news. I have something coming to mind, depending on how many people the cake is for of course. If, say, it's 3 tiers, you could alternate colors with white bottom, black center and white top (this would be the birch tier). Maybe if the birch is a hand painted effect, you could do some painted leaf details on the other tiers and something twig-like (thinking of the brancjes in the wilton branch & leaf mold) for the borders. It could even be nice to do a "carved" heart in the birch with their initials. I know it's hard to get a picture in your mind with words, so if you need a quick sketch I'd be glad to post one for you. Now I want to do a cake like this!  ;)

I saw the coolest cake that you could add black flowers to and have your black and white and it is natural... I am sending you the picture... I got it from a friend on fb... not my work so don't want to post it here.
