Now that I've finally set myself up and inundated you all with my pics of every cake and topper I've done, I guess I should do the introduction thing too. LOL.

I'm Jen. I'm from Middlebury, CT. I worked in marketing for 13+ years as an Art Director and graphic designer. As a 3-time layoff victim to the economy, I figured it was career change time. I have been working on launching my business, Jenny-Lu's Baked Goods, for about 2 years. I started out thinking I'd just do cookies and candies, but I helped out with some fondant sculpting at a local bakery for a couple days and thought, "hey, I can SO do that!" So I put my Art degree and sculpture experience to work and made my first sculpted cake in February of 2010... R2D2. I had only what I saw at the bakery and what I learned from all the cake shows to go by and had NO clue what I was doing. It was a huge success.

Now I work as needed for my local supply store and bake and sculpt from home. I have come to a point where I need to up my income however, so I am going to be putting myself out to the local shops as a freelance Cake Artist. Hoping it pans out so I can continue in this career and find success as a Cake Artist.

I love that I found this site and am finally getting more active with it. It is so amazingly helpful to have the support and experience of others when needed. Thanks for being here!

Oh... I can also be a bit verbose.  ;)

Thanks for the warm welcome Linda. So glad I found this site. Looking for some good information on gumpaste flower making. Really having a hard time with those. Much appreciated.

Thanks Teresa for accepting me into this fabulous group of talented people. Very eager to learn more.

Dee, Edna de la Cruz has some excellent videos posted for gum paste flowers along with other tutorials. She is a member of this cake site and also has her own website called Design Me a Cake. Here is her link. Search the videos on this site too, as there are many who have posted how-to videos. http://www.designmeacake.com/tutorials.html

Welcome Jen & Dee

You came to the right place to learn & make cake friends

Hi all my name is Michelle Johnson I live in San Diego county.
I have been interested in baking my whole life but I would have to say I just started decorating the last 2 yrs. I love making things for people I would love to go into business but have the slighted idea how. I am not professional trained and I am a little Leary of my abilities. I would really love to work with someone and learn from them but I have not found such a place or person.
I have really enjoyed this site, I have just recently been really looking around, I am excited and can't wait to meet more of you and see all the work the great people on this site can do.
You all have been so helpful and wonderful
Thank you
