Could someone assist in guiding me with this pink and gold handbag cake?

Here is the link:

How much fondant is needed to cover the cake - approximately 8 inches high and 10 x 5 inches wide. What items should and should not be made in gumpaste/fondant.

Also, what is the shelf life of a sponge cake and should the cake be dowelled?

How to go about dowelling the cake. I saw instructions somewhere cant remember where to stack to a certain height, palce foam core ( I DONT HAVE ACCESS TO FOAM CORE - CAN CARD BOARD BE USED?) on cake, then insert 3 dowel rods and place the balance of the cake and card etc as required.

I am not sure the under part of the handbag looks like fondant. Therefore, should I put a cardboard under the cake, then fondant followed by the cake. I really need some guidance on doing this cake, please help.

P.S. What type of gold lustre dust should be used to get that type of gold finish, thanks

Well lets see, you have alot of questions here. First all you need is maybe 2 pounds of fondant.  You'll have some left over. You can use all fondant on this cake. I wouldnt use gumpaste, unless for the handle, but its layin on the cake, so just use fondant. You can use food safe cardboard for your top tier.  Wooden or straws for dowels 6 should work, 2 on each side, space them along the cake. Yes, you can place a card board under the cake, then cover. For the luster dust. Gold comes in many hues. This looks like a high luster gold, but you can use any of the golds. Use vodka or lemon extract to paint with.

Hope this helps. You can also go to youtube for tutorials, there are several out there. Best of luck. I hope I was able to help you some.

forgot to mention, to ice cake first before you cover it in fondant. but you already know that right!
Oh yes thanks Ruby for all your help
