Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

Hi all, I need your help. I am making a car cake, it's a replica of a 16 year olds '68 Mustang he is restoring. :) I want to put in those button lights for the headlights, so they actually light up. But what is the actual name for those lights (or are they just called button lights? lol), so I can look them up or call craft stores in my area to see if they carry them. Or if anyone can provide a link, that would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!!

Thanks so much for all your help. Hubby said he'd go with me to Radio Shack to see what they have for lights, and he said he'd help me hook them up in the cake. I'm sure we can come up with something. :) If not, it won't have working lights, no biggie. (he IS an engineer, so I'm sure he can 'Magyver' something...lol)

Hi Jeannine,

Check out my vw car with working headlights, led lights came from Michaels craft store in the wedding section they work great!

I saw your cake Nancy, very cool. I wish I had thought about the lights earlier, I was in a Michaels when I was on vacation in Florida 2 weeks ago....and our Michaels isn't scheduled to open till the end of Sept...not sure if it's before the 25th or not. Wonder who I can call to find out...lol :)
This may sound strange, but have you checked out body buttons?  Found them at a Halloween costume store.  Self contained light-up jewel for the belly button or ears.  Came in different colors.  Used them on my daughters Sweet 16 cake.  I cut a small circle of plastic wrap to cover the base and side before inserting into the cake. worked perfectly.
Oh wow, I don't know if I've ever heard of those! Thanks, I'll have to check into that! I have a sweet 16 cake coming up in january that I'll need lights for too.....thanks!!
JoAnn Fabrics was selling large sized button lights.  You can also look up the lighted stud earrings online...those could work and make fantastic "stars" on cakes.

Hi Jeannine,

I've just found rhis on the net and it looks like just the thing you need. On other pages on this website they have people wearing them as earrings http://www.flashingblinkylights.com/miniledwhitecandyliteswithclip-...

They are based in California I believe, hope this helps.

Tracy :)

These are EXACTLY what I was looking for!!! But I don't have time to get them from California. :( But I will keep these in mind for a sweet 16 cake I'm doing in January. Thanks for the link!! Caran, I'l have to check out our Joann Fabrics...thanks for that...never even thought of going to JoAnns. I did check out Radio Shack but it's going to be a lot of soldering for hubby to do, just for 2 lights SO we nixed that idea. He did find super skinny flashlights, no bigger than a AAA battery.....so I may use those if I can't find anything at JoAnns.

Thanks for all your help!!! :)

The ones I mentioned above were water proof and can be placed inside foods, vases, etc.
