Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

I"ve finally got all my pricing figured out except for the "extra" stuff you can do with fondant/gumpaste. I really dont have a clue where to start. I was hopen ya'll might be able to give me some ideas. Like for example, something simple like a pair of baby booties, what would you charge for those? Or, I'm doing a cake for a friend(at not charge) for her college graduation. I'm going to do a sheet cake in buttercream & a small like 4x4 inch gumpaste cap to put in the corner with some fondant tassels. If I was to do something like that for a order I wouldn't know what to charge for the cap. I do make my own MMF. I haven't tried anything complicated yet, like the flowers or people. Thanks for any tips

I sort of use ebay as a guide then add £5.00 at least to it. I charge £15.00 for plain booties then if they are lacey or flower ones see file below I will charge £20 to £25. A Baby like one below £25.00 as i will put it in a basket, crandle or angel wings and when i do a topper i usually make a little teddy, rattle, bib etc

a cap i would prob charge around £10 to £15.00

hope that helps

Have no idea on pricing but Kay OMG!!!!, you are so very clever!!!! Loved both sets of booties, and the baby, just perfect. Have you been doing this for a long time?, are you self taught or did you do classes?

Jennifer, how did you figure out your pricing? I just did my first wedding cake and under priced it by a lot! It was a lot of work! I'm worried I'm gonna be charging to little or maybe too much and not get business. Any advice would be appreciated?
Nikki, I just checked out some of the websites of decorators in my area & stayed within range of theres, I also have a friend who used to cater here a couple years ago, that helped me with what I could set my prices at for my area, i'm pretty rural. My last wedding cake I could've charged more for, so I had to adjust my pricing a little bit. Pricing is hard, it took me about 3 weeks of really thinking about it, even with my friends help. The biggest help though was the local website pricing. my website is

Thanks Jennifer. I'm gonna check around town & see what the going rates are.
Its very difficult unless you have a good following I think its really hard to get what u deserve for ur cakes. People don't realise how much work goes into them
Thanks! I was about to post this same question. People are asking me to create for them fondant/gumpaste figures and I had no idea how much to charge additional for the work.
