I am from Greenwood, Arkansas originally from NW Iowa. I've been taking classes at my local Michael's store and already there's been lots of changes. They've taken a lot of the Wilton supplies down or discontinued items. I've learned more from videos off of You-Tube or from facebook friends. My mom showed me how to do cakes 20yrs ago but it's nothing like what it is today. I have been making more and more cakes since just before Christmas 2009, my husband works at a children's emergency shelter and a recent board meeting I made a cake for him to serve, it looks like the logo of their name. Hubby decided at the last minute that he wanted the initials below the logo he put that on....not good....don't let them do anything without a tracing...lol here's the cake.

Hey! I'm Jennifer, and I'm from Dacula, Georgia. I am a full-time Spanish teacher, and I just started making cakes on the side at the end of February, when I made my 3year old daughter's birthday cake. Since then, I have made 12 cakes. I have not taken any official classes. However, my high school offered cooking classes - Foods 1-4. The teacher started to teach cake decorating in Foods 3. That is where I learned what I know. Now, I just play around and teach myself. I would like to go through the Wilton classes to be "certified", but I don't want to start at the beginning. I'm trying to find out if it is possible to "test out" of a couple of the classes. Does anybody know?? I'm happy to be here, and I hope I learn a lot. :)
In Anchorage Alaska, we have to start with course 1, after course 1 we can take the other courses in any order we want, not sure about anywhere else, it could be a Wilton thing to do it that way. I wanted to just take course 3 and Fondant and Gum Paste since I have been cake decorating since 1997, but I have learned a lot with taking the classes, I just have Fondant and Gum Paste to go :)

Hi everyone!! New to this sight but I'm sure I'll get the hang of it!! I'm from Vacaville CA! Please look me up on facebook! THanks. I know my way around there better!!
I am from Sterling Heights, Michigan. I took 1 cake class about 15 yrs ago that led me to Culinary School because I wanted more. I have only taken about 4 or 5 culinary classes and NONE of them were baking. LOL. But through it I found a wonderful job as a sous chef/baker at The Chocolate Gallery Cafe' that I have been at for 12 years now!
Honestly I was never interested in making cakes, I wanted to work for a hotel making fancy desserts. But a year ago my boss asked me to make a customer a red velvet cake for a valentines gift and I had so much fun I was inspired all over again! So for the last year I have been studying cake decorating on the web with all the great videos people put our and forums set up. I am now going to attempt my own business, SophistiCakes! My dream is to have a little shop in down town Birmingham, Michigan. (as soon as God hands me a million dollars) It doesn't hurt to dream!
Hi! I'm from Mt. Juliet, TN (near Nashville). I've been caking for about three years now and I really enjoy it. I would like to eventually take my hobby to the business level.
I am from Biloxi, Mississippi. I have been decorating for almost a year. I was recently hired by Frosting: Gourmet Cupcakes to launch the newly offered custom cake side of the business. I am not prossefionally trained, just trial and error and alot of youtube videos. I love what I do and look forward to learning as much as I can from other members.
Hello everyone,
I am from Ocala, Fl. I have been decorating cakes for years, it was something I could do at home when my grown daughters were little. I also specialize in the good old southern pound cakes.
Hi all, I'm from Kingman, AZ. I've been making cakes for several years and I love it. It seems like I go quite awhile without making any and then it seems like I get a bunch to do at one time. I just joined this site after a friend recommended it to me, I love all of the tips and ideas! :o)
I'm from SW Florida. I've been baking for years, since I was 11 yrs old. I've only recently began decorating. I'm currently in Course 3 Wilton. Last cake due this Monday.First tier cake I'm excited! I love this. Wish I had started sooner.
Hi
I wanted to reply to you because I used to live in Florida. We lived in Winter Springs. I am always on the look out for people that live or have lived in places that I have! I have been living in PA for the last 10 years. But visit Florida as often as I can. I have been decorating cakes for only about a year now, but have always baked at home. I went through the Wilton course 1 so far. I plan on continuing with the rest at some point.
Kathy
