Cake Decorating Community - Cakes We Bake

Hi,

I am new to baking a topsy turvey cake. My question is what kind of cake recipe must i use?

I would like the bottem layer to be chocolate and the top Vanilla.

please can some send me a recipe urgently as i need to bake them tonight as it has to be done for my birthday on sat.

I would like a recipe that i can make from scratch. Does anyone have one?

i also need a nice buttercream Filling for the cakes.

Thanks so much

Kelly, there are lots of recipes in the Recipe section of the forums.  What you need is a sturdy (dense) cake which you can carve.  I use the WASC recipes (in the forum) but they aren't scratch.

I live in South Africa, so we dont have that type of cake mix and i am nervous to try another one in case it flops.

Thanks for teh reply :)

Sorry, I should have checked that.  There is a WASC scratch version in the forums.  I've not used it but I've heard good things about it.    http://www.cakeswebake.com/forum/topics/better-white-scratch-cake

I read the recipe, why dont they beat the egss whites before hand?

If you beat the eggs whites before and fold them in you have a chiffon cake which isn't sturdy at all.  It's light and fluffy.  I haven't made this recipe but I wonder if you could use maybe 8 whole eggs instead of 10 egg whites.
